What are batteries?
Batteries are electrochemical power sources - as a result of chemical reactions taking place, electricity is created that moves the car. There are many types of batteries on the market. Their quality and technological advancement directly affect the performance of the car - the batteries are a guarantee of proper starting. However, it is not enough to buy a battery adapted to the needs of the driver and the car - you should also regularly check its condition and service it, and follow the rules of its use that extend the life of the device. Short, frequent driving in cold temperatures is not conducive to its proper charging and can lead to faster operation.
How do batteries work?
When the battery is charged, including when the engine is running, oxygen and hydrogen are released from the electrolyte. 40% of the electrolyte is sulfuric acid, which does not evaporate - but water does. The level of the mixture is thus continuously lowered.
Regular control of the mixture level is necessary in order not to lead to its excessive evaporation and incorrect operation of the batteries. In classic batteries, it is enough to check the electrolyte level at least once a year, preferably before winter. When it comes to maintenance-free batteries, it is worth doing it only after several years of use.
